The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fifth Grade Vincent P. Volz (ASN: 33071556), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with while serving with the 1st Quartermaster Company, 1st Infantry Division, in action in Sicily, on or about 10 July 1943. When a ship loaded with vehicles, gasoline, and ammunition was burning fiercely after having been bombed by enemy aircraft, Corporal Volz, despite the grave danger involved, made several trips with his amphibious vehicle to the ship and rescued the personnel aboard. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Technician Fifth Grade Volz reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
