    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Clarence Hallett (ASN: 16045385), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, in action against the enemy in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from April through August 1943. During a bitter engagement with the enemy, Private Hallett despite enemy artillery fire, went to the aid of a seriously wounded soldier and, assisted by another man, successfully evacuated. His courageous and unselfish actions won him the admiration and respect of all who witnessed them. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
