The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Franklin A. Keli (ASN: 16050927), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with while serving with the 1st Infantry Division in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from March through July 1943. Private First Class Keli endangered his life by plunging into rough and choppy water having a strong undertow in a daring attempt to save a fellow soldier from drowning, and continued his efforts until exhausted. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Private First Class Keli reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
