The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Captain (Field Artillery), [then First Lieutenant] Willard F. Scott (ASN: 0-416429), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with Battery B, 7th Field Artillery Battalion, 1st Infantry Division, in action in North Africa and Sicily, during the period from February through July 1943. When two bandoliers of .30 caliber ammunition had caught fire, imperiling lives of nearby personnel and endangering valuable equipment, Captain Scott, at great risk to his life quickly and efficiently extinguished the fire. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Captain Scott reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
