Headquarters, 101st Airborne Division, General Orders No. 9913 (August 26, 1970)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Curtis F. Wyman, United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery A, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 321st Artillery Regiment, while serving as an Artillery Forward Observer for Company D, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, securing Fire Support Base TOMAHAWK, on 10 June 1970 in the Republic of Vietnam. When a large and well-trained sapper force attempted to penetrate the perimeter, Lieutenant Wyman repeatedly subjecting himself to intense enemy fire, maneuvered from bunker to bunker to assist in directing the perimeter defense and encourage the men to maintain a suppressive volume of fire on the enemy. He was also responsible for calling in and properly adjusting artillery fire while under intense enemy small arms, Rocket propelled grenade, and mortar fire. His action prevented heavy casualties and inspired the defenders to successfully repulse the enemy attack. Lieutenant Wyman’s personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
