After serving as a Fighter Pilot in the Army Air Forces in World War II, where he was credited with destroying one enemy aircraft and assisting in destruction of another in aerial combat, Kyle Riddle transferred to the U.S. Air Force when it became a separate branch of service in 1947. He retired in 1969 as a U.S. Air Force Brigadier General.

Riddle (ASN: AO-356174), United States Army Air Forces, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as a Fighter Pilot of the 479th Fighter Squadron, EIGHTH Air Force, in action over enemy-occupied Continental Europe and the destruction of one enemy aircraft and assisting in the destruction of another during World War II. The skillful and zealous manner in which he has sought out the enemy and destroyed him, his devotion to duty and courage under all conditions serve as an inspiration to his fellow flyers. His actions on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Force of the United States.

The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Colonel Riddle, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
