By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private First Class Ronald McRae, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company G, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the morning of 15 July 1918, Private McRae, while in an advance position and under the direct fire of the enemy, checked the enemy’s advance by moving his automatic rifle through an open space and opening fire upon the enemy’s advancing lines, checked their advance and although wounded three times he continued to fire until reinforcements arrived. The act of Private McRae in the face of the terrible fire was an act of exceptional devotion to duty.
