No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Eli Carhill (ASN: 544484), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as a mounted orderly with Headquarters Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Carhill displayed great courage and resourcefulness during the Champagne-Marne Defensive 15 – 18 July 1918, in the Bois D’Aigrement near Crezancy, France, maintaining liaison between the Regimental Post of Command and 6th Infantry Brigade Post of Command over shell-swept roads and paths after other means of communication were destroyed.
