By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Wagoner Victor Threlkeld (ASN: 2178686), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Supply Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 27 October 1918, Wagoner Threlkeld drove a load of rations to the front through an unusual amount of German artillery activity. Stopped between Nantillois and Madeleine Farm and warned that the gas ahead was so intense that he would be running a great risk in trying to pass through it, he nevertheless proceeded and arrived at his destination, only to find that the details to receive the rations had been ordered not to leave their protection as the German bombardment was so intense at this spot. This man remained there unprotected until the artillery fire had let up and the details finally reported to receive his load.
