By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal George W. McEldowney, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Supply Company, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Corporal McEldowney displayed exceptional courage and high devotion to duty in carrying ammunition and rations through heavy shell fire at Crezancy, France, 15 July 1918, and also in rendering voluntary first aid to the wounded. In the Meuse-Argonne Offensive he voluntarily exposed himself to great danger in carrying needed supplies under heavy fire to the front line.
