By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant John G. Drossman (ASN: 544839), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with the Ordnance Detachment, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, from 21 to 23 July 1918, Sergeant Drossman established and maintained an advanced ammunition dump on the bank of the Marne, without cover and under the severest shell-fire and aeroplane bombardment. He refused to move his dump to the rear, despite warnings that it was impossible to maintain his position at such an advanced spot. From this place he was able to much more satisfactorily supply the troops with ammunition than he had moved to a less exposed place more to the rear.
