By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Ted J. Thompson (ASN: 2825764), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company H, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Madelaine Farm, France, on 11 October 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, Private Thompson volunteered to go out in front of the first line of the Battalion which his unit was supporting and rescue a wounded comrade thereby exposing himself to murderous machine gun fir which temporarily held up the attack that was in progress. He bound up the wounds of the soldier and succeeded in getting him back to a place of safety. The act was one of extraordinary heroism and inspired and cheered the onlookers.
