By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Julius Broscki (ASN: 542894), United States Army, is cited (Posthumously) by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company L, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, entering the Battle of the Argonne as a Private, Broscki was quickly made an acting sergeant for his ability and courage. In the attack on the Bois de la Pultiere, on 15 October 1918, he was wounded in the leg. As his platoon commander and platoon sergeant had become casualties, he refused to go to the rear for first aid, claiming he was needed by his platoon. He led the men on in the attack and was wounded a second time. Again he refused to leave until the attack was successful. He died from loss of blood before reaching the objective, but the fact that his platoon reached the objective was undoubtedly due to his heroism and courage.
