By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal Willie L. Morrow (ASN: 650213), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company D, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on the night of 14 – 15 July 1918, at La Rocq Farm, France, on the Marne River, Corporal Morrow volunteered to carry messages through the intense enemy artillery preparation for the attack of 15 July. At the risk of his life he made three trips from the Regiment Post of Command to the Battalion Posts of Command, traversing the distance alone and under intense shell fire.
