By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Corporal James H. Graham (ASN: 2175643), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company E, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 12 October 1918, near Cunel Ridge, France, Corporal Graham volunteered with Corporal Don D. Foote, to carry wounded back to the Aid Station when no litter bearers were available and no one else volunteered for the work. This was under an intense artillery fire. He also led a platoon of his Company in the attack and remained with his Company while sick, until he was forced to go to the rear and was evacuated to the hospital.
