By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Sergeant E. A. Reardon (ASN: 540286), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving with Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, on 15 July 1918, near Fossoy France, Sergeant Reardon displayed conspicuous bravery in action. When all officers of his company had been killed or wounded in a counter attack against the enemy who had crossed the Marne and he was painfully wounded in the arm by shell fire, he nevertheless remained with the attacking troops until the objective was reached. Thereafter he took charge of the evacuation and care of the wounded and refused to be evacuated himself until ordered by an officer.
