By direction of the President, under the provisions of the act of Congress approved July 9, 1918 (Bul. No. 43, W.D., 1918), Private Robert G. Christman, United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the World War I Victory Medals awarded him. While serving as Runner with Headquarters Detachment, 5th Infantry Brigade, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, Private Christman, when given a message for the 8th Machine-Gun Battalion, at Bochage Ferme, found that the regular runner was not at his regular post and, having been told that the message was very important, ran the whole distance himself; this when the roads were subjected to heavy shell fire.
