Headquarters, 37th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 94 (April 22, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Calvin H. Walker (ASN: 36642069), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 148th Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy at Manila, Luzon, Philippine Islands, on 5 February, 1945. Private Walker was a member of a group of men who were cut off from their unit by an enemy machine gun which covered a wide street intersection. Seeing one of our light machine guns lying in the middle of the street, he dashed out and recovered the weapon under intense enemy fire. Then, after loading the empty belt, he stepped into the open and laid down such effective fire that the enemy were forced to take cover, allowing his comrades to rejoin their organization. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
