Smith, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 3d Quartermaster Company, 3d Infantry Division, in action Acciarella, Italy, on 27 May 1944. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Lieutenant Smith reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
