Moore, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chaplain, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, during the period culminating on 18 August 1943. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Chaplain Moore and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.

    (Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Chaplains Corp’s) Denis George Moore (ASN: 0-30969), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving as a Chaplain with the 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action during the Sicilian Campaign in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, in July 1943. Chaplain Moore rescued one man from a steep mountainside in the Sicilian fighting, and eight from a minefield which had cost the lives of two other soldiers who preceded him in efforts to evacuate the wounded. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Chaplain Moore, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
