The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Major Myron Oliver Tingelstad (AFSN: FR-46566), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force as an F-105 Thunderchief Pilot of the 333d Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand, in action over North Vietnam on 11 March 1967. On that date, Major Tingelstad’s mission was to suppress anti-aircraft fire for aircraft bombing an extremely important steel plant. He aggressively and accurately attacked a firing anti-aircraft site, and courageously continued the attack when fired at by two surface-to-air missiles over the target even though his aircraft had sustained two hits from flak. Following the attack, Major Tingelstad elected to over-fly the more heavily defended city of Thai Nguyen in order to expeditiously rejoin his flight leader, whose aircraft had malfunctioning vital equipment. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Major Tingelstad has reflected great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
