The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Bobby G. Frost (ASN: W-2216617), United States Army, for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the Air Cavalry Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Frost distinguished himself by valorous actions on 21 July 1967, while serving as an aircraft commander flying an aerial support mission for a road convoy. Without warning, the lead vehicle exploded, triggering a violent assault by an estimated reinforced battalion of Viet Cong. Immediately executing a skillful firing pass upon the fanatical attackers, Warrant Officer Frost expertly eluded the withering ground fire and enabled his door gunners to deliver a devastating barrage of highly accurate machine gun fire upon the enemy. As he rapidly ascended, Warrant Officer Frost’s aircraft received several hits, one round of which painfully wounded him. He refused to abort the mission, however, and he fearlessly completed three additional passes while exposed to the lethal ground fire. Alertly seeing the Aircraft of his team leader lose altitude, Warrant Officer Frost, disregarding the pain of his wounds, circled the crippled helicopter in order to provide covering fire for its descent. Warrant Officer Frost remained steadfastly above the downed craft until a reaction force arrived. He then returned to the base camp to allow his injuries to be treated. Warrant Officer Frost’s extreme courage, outstanding flying ability, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 9th Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
