The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant Jamie Gough, III (AFSN: FR-3195058), United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force as an F-4D Pilot of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over hostile territory on 9 November 1968. On that date, Lieutenant Gough, upon being shot down and severely injured over a heavily defended target, directed airstrikes on antiaircraft positions, warned tactical aircraft when they were receiving ground fire, and assisted rescue forces in such a manner as to diminish the risk to these vulnerable aircraft. His concern for his fellow airmen as well as the cool manner in which he held off eight hostile troops with his pistol are in accord with the highest traditions of the professional airman. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Gough has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Jamie Gough, III (AFSN: FR-3195058), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Pilot of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action over hostile territory on 21 July 1968. On that date, Lieutenant Gough repeatedly penetrated intense antiaircraft fire to successfully destroy at night two separate targets in North Vietnam. The destruction of these targets was instrumental in reducing the flow of supplies into South Vietnam. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Gough reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit to Colonel Jamie Gough, III (AFSN: FR-3195058), United States Air Force, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Belgium, Vice Commander and Commander, 86th Tactical Fighter Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany; and as Vice commander, 86th Fighter Wing, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, from 17 July 1989 to 9 October 1991. During this period, Colonel Gough succeeded in the identification of critical European alliance issues to the decision-making process in Washington. As a commander, he increased sorties, while simultaneously reducing workdays, decreasing mishap rates, and increasing wing morale. His planning, implementing, testing, evaluating, and reporting of the United States Air Force in Europe’s test objective wing were key to the development of plans which will form Air Force wings for years to come. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Gough and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
