The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Gary Sidney Olin (AFSN: FR-78836), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-105 Pilot of the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action near Hanoi, North Vietnam, on 15 December 1967. On that date, while exposed to intense antiaircraft artillery fire, surface-to-air missiles and hostile aircraft activity, Captain Olin delivered his ordnance and aided in the destruction of a vital highway and railroad bridge. The resultes of Captain Olin’s successful attack, while facing massive hostile antiaircraft defenses, seriously impaired the North Vietnamese logistic effort. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Olin reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
