The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Second Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Third Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain James V. Fiorelli (AFSN: FR-670201), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-100 Forward Air Controller operating over North Vietnam on 21 December 1967. On that date, Captain Fiorelli conducted an extensive and daring search at low altitudes over a heavily defended area of North Vietnam, successfully locating the survivor of an aircraft lost on an earlier date. Using outstanding aggressiveness in the unprecedented and sensitive situation that followed, Captain Fiorelli gained significant intelligence data and contributed markedly to future activities concerning the recovery of air crew members downed over North Vietnam. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Fiorelli reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
