Action Date:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain Michael Joseph Carl Roth, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as an A-26 Attack-Bomber Pilot of the 609th Air Commando Squadron, Nakhon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, in action in Southeast Asia on 8 November 1967. On that date, Captain Roth struck a heavily defended hostile truck convoy and despite intense hostile gun fire and adverse weather he elected to remain in the area. Disregarding his own personal safety Captain Roth continued to attack until the convoy was destroyed and the hostile forces had suffered severe damage to logistical equipment. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Roth has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
