Clanton, United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving Pilot of a UC-123 aircraft with the 309th Air Commando Squadron, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, South Vietnam, in action over Southeast Asia, on 20 June 1966. Captain Clanton was p;iloting one of two UC-123s that were making multiple passes on a target in Quang Tin Province. Both were hit on each of the first four passes, but Captain Clanton continued on a fifth spray run, during which heavy enemy machine gun fire knocked out an engine, causing him to crash to the ground, pinning him in his aircraft until he was rescued by other members of his crew. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Clanton has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
