Burke Morgan graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado, Class of 1961. Nearly 40 years after he was listed as “Missing in Action” in Southeast Asia, his remains were recovered, identified, and interred at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cemetery, next to his wife.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross with Combat “V” to First Lieutenant Burke Henderson Morgan, United States Air Force, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a Navigator over the Republic of Vietnam on 27 November 1963. On that date, Lieutenant Morgan, acting as an Advisor to the Vietnamese Air Force, guided the aircraft in close support aerial -re-supply drops to a friendly fort under attack by the Viet Cong. Through his heroic perseverance and outstanding professional airmanship, while flying through accurate hostile ground fire, Lieutenant Morgan helped direct the night time aerial delivery of ammunition to the friendly forces so effectively that the attack was repelled and the lives of the friendly forces saved. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Morgan reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.

    The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Burke Henderson Morgan, United States Air Force, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving as Bombardier-Navigator of a Bomber of the 606th Air Commando Squadron, 56th Air Commando Wing, in action in Southeast Asia on 14 August 1967. On that date, Captain Morgan, acting in the capacity of Navigator, Co-Pilot and Observer, supported his aircraft’s attack of a heavy concentration of opposing ground troops and trucks. After his attack was completed, Captain Morgan nursed the aircraft fuel to absolute minimum as he aided in guiding his compatriots into the target. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Morgan has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
