(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Captain Michael Lewis Hyde (AFSN: 0-12702309), United States Air Force, for gallantry in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force while serving as Pilot of an F-100 Super Sabre Fighter Airplane of the 510th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 3d Tactical Fighter Wing, SEVENTH Air Force, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on 8 November 1966. Captain Hyde made 15 low level attacks with bombs and cannon fire in close support of elements of the 25th Infantry Division near Tay Ninh, where it had been surrounded by a large enemy force. Captain Hyde’s action, with complete disregard for his own safety, permitted the infantry to hold its positions. By his gallantry and devotion to duty, Captain Hyde has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
