(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Ronald Welton, United States Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity In action against the enemy while serving as a Platoon Leader with the 2d Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, in action against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on 10 February 1969. During a reconnaissance in force mission, an enemy sniper was harassing the platoon from a well-concealed location. Braving the sniper’s fire, which was soon augmented by automatic weapons fire, Lieutenant Welton moved forward to silence the sniper. Continuing his advance, he eliminated the automatic weapons in the enemy bunker with a well-aimed fragmentation grenade. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
