The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Specialist Fourth Class Richard Smith Kendrick, United States Army, for gallantry in action while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an armed hostile force while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion (Airmobile), 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), in the Republic of Cambodia. Specialist Fourth Class Kendrick distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions on 7 May 1970, while serving in the Republic of Cambodia. When his unit came under intense rocket and small arms fire, Specialist Fourth Class Kendrick moved through the bullet swept battle field to the point of heaviest contact to place accurate fire on the enemy positions. His gallant action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
