The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Theodore Homdrom (ASN: 0-809611), United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Navigator in the lead airplane of a Combat Bombardment Wing of B-17 aircraft on a bombing mission over Germany, 21 June 1944. From the beginning of the climb to altitude through most of the journey to and from the target visibility was seriously hampered by contrail formations and haze conditions at altitude and on the ground. Before the bombing run the formation was subjected to vicious attacks by a large force of enemy aircraft and, as the turn on the bombing run was made, anti-aircraft fire was brought to bear on the formation, painfully wounding Lieutenant Homdrom and damaging the aircraft in which he flew. Despite pain and discomfort, Lieutenant Homdrom remained at his post to check for identification points along the bomb run and through the clearing smoke was able to identify the target. At this point a very short bombing run was made and bombs were dropped with great accuracy. In spite of his pain Lieutenant Homdrom remained at his task to assist in guiding the formation back to base. The courage, coolness and skill displayed by Lieutenant Homdrom reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
