The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Sergeant Johnny G. Arnold` (ASN: 20450926), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the 273d Field Artillery Battalion, XII Corps, in action on 6 April 1945, in Germany. In a building housing a transformer, Private First Class John B. Hedden while sitting on an iron railing, was endeavoring to insert a fuse in a fuse box. In the act of reaching for his pliers, he fell across the 6,000 volt transformer and came in contact with a life wire which left his shocked and helpless. Thinking and acting quickly, and without regard for his own personal safety, First Sergeant Arnold came to his aid by grabbing him by the shirt and pulling him to safety. The courage of First Sergeant Arnold reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
