The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Sidney M. Richman (ASN: 0-427433), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States while serving with the ELEVENTH Air Force, in action in Alaska on 29 October 1942, when a fellow pilot, attempting to make an emergency landing, crashed in flames. Lieutenant Richman, without hesitation and with utter disregard for his own personal safety succeeded in removing the unconscious pilot from the burning plane at great peril of being burned or injured from exploding ammunition. This act of bravery and courage reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
