The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Air Corps) Jack F. Todd (ASN: 0-22559), United States Army Air Forces, for heroism while participating in aerial flight while acting in the capacity of first pilot and flight leader of a bombardment flight of four airplanes on 11 June 1942 against the Japanese in the Aleutian area. In contact with the enemy during a maneuver to attack a cruiser, Captain Todd and the flight were caught in heavy anti-aircraft fire from unobserved enemy warships. His airplane was hit, caught fire and crashed on an island. Captain Todd with no previous experience in the Alaskan Aleutian area, displayed great devotion to duty in proceeding through inclement weather to the target area, choosing his target and attacking. The courage and heroism displayed by Captain Todd reflects great credit upon himself and t he Army Air Forces.
