The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant (Air Corps) Kenneth W. Northamer, United States Army Air Forces, for extraordinary achievement, initiative and bravery while participating in aerial flight in a torpedo attack against an enemy naval concentration, in the Aleutian Area, 4 June 1942. Flying in formation through inclement weather and poor visibility, Lieutenant Northamer sighting the enemy, attacked and landed his torpedo, then pulled up into the overcast to escape the heavy enemy anti-aircraft fire. Lieutenant Northamer returned immediately to his base, and from 3 June 1942 to 7 June 1942, participated in several flights against reported enemy naval concentrations. His courage, initiative and command reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
