The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain (Air Corps) Henry S. Taylor, United States Army Air Forces, for heroism while participating in aerial flight while acting in the capacity of first pilot on a torpedo mission against a Japanese naval concentration in the Aleutian area, 4 June 1942. Flying through inclement weather and heavy anti-aircraft fire, Captain Taylor, after having his ship pierced by shrapnel, maneuvered into position and successfully launched his torpedo. He then returned to his base. His initiative, courage and heroism is worthy of the highest praise and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
