The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Major (Medical Corps) Donald P. Morris (ASN: 0-1685266), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States. At Morotai Island, Netherlands East Indies, on 16 February 1945. When a fellow officer was exhausted trying to swim to shore against a strong undertow and was in danger of drowning, Major Morris voluntarily and at the risk of his life entered the heavy surf and swam to the rescue. He succeeded in reaching the distressed officer and brought him safely to shore. This act reflects great credit upon Major Morris and the Military Service.
