The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Airman First Class Larry Wayne Lawrence, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life at Robins, Air Force Base, Georgia, on 20 August 1980. On this date Airman Lawrence’s courage, well thought-out actions and dedication to duty were instrumental in the preservation of many millions of dollars worth of aircraft and equipment. His valiant efforts in removing equipment from the immediate vicinity of a burning and exploding B-52 aircraft, his subduing of a fire raging in a storm drain, which was in close proximity to a tanker phase dock and his subsequent assistance in removing three aircraft from the scene of the disaster indicate professionalism and valor of the highest order. The exemplary courage and heroism displayed by Airman Lawrence reflect great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
