The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Airman’s Medal to Senior Airman James Harold Mylott, III, United States Air Force, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life near Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, on 26 July 1980. On that date, Airman Mylott rushed to the aid of two inexperienced boaters who had been thrown overboard during a severe thunderstorm. With complete disregard for his own safety, Airman Mylott skillfully piloted his boat through torrential rains, high winds, and treacherous waves to the two women who clung to a single seat cushion. His determination and perseverance resulted in their successful rescue. By his courageous and humanitarian regard for his fellowman, Airman Mylott has reflected great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Air Force.
