The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Masaru Kimura, United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with an enemy of the United States. While serving with Battery B, 522d Field Artillery Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team on 14 July 1944 in the vicinity of Castellina, Italy. After an antiaircraft gun was fired accidentally into an ammunition dump, Private Kimura ran to the dump and began throwing dirt on the flames, smothering the fire and saving his battery almost certain loss of materiel and his comrades from possible injury or death.
