The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Third Grade Seian Hokoma (ASN: 30102002), United States Army, for heroism near Torokina, Bougainville, British Solomon Islands, on 29 June 1944. When a civilian war correspondent became exhausted while swimming in heavy surf, Technician Hokama at great risk to his own life with another enlisted man swam out and brought the drowning man to shore against a strong undertow, thereby saving his life.
