Headquarters, XX Corps, General Orders No. 136 (August 4, 1945)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Robert T. Yutaka (ASN: 30105869), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with the enemy while serving with Headquarters Battery, 522d Field Artillery Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in Germany on 18 June 1945. When a German girl fell into the Danube River, Private First Class Yutaka and a comrade quickly swam to her aid. After failing in an attempt to tow both persons to shore, Private First Class Yutaka kept them afloat until help arrived. His exceptional courage and loyalty to others are deserving of high praise.
