The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Shunro Nomura (ASN: 37710132), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with the enemy while serving with Headquarters Battery, 522d Field Artillery Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in Germany on 18 June 1945. When a young German girl fell from a bridge into the Danube River and two soldiers made unsuccessful attempts to save her, Private First Class Nomura with another soldier dived into the water and brought the girl and an exhausted comrade to safety. His courageous actions were largely responsible for saving two lives and brought high credit upon himself and the Army.
