The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Technician Fourth Grade Tadashi Tojo (ASN: 30104303), United States Army, for heroism not involving actual conflict with the enemy while serving with Headquarters Battery, 522d Field Artillery Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in Germany on 18 June 1945. When a small German girl fell from a bridge into the Danube River and a soldier made an unsuccessful attempt to save her, Technician Tojo dove into the water and, with the assistance of two other men, brought both persons to safety. His exceptional courage and devotion to the welfare of others are in keeping with the high traditions of the Army of the United States.
