The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain (Infantry) Christopher R. Keegan (ASN: 0-1285060), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States with Company H, 2d Battalion, 442d Regimental Combat Team, in the United States, Italy and France from 15 April 1943 to 6 April 1945. By assiduous and able leadership of his command during the training period Captain Keegan developed an efficient and specialized fighting team that proved itself in combat. Throughout operations in Italy and Southern France Captain Keegan’s unit accomplished its mission in a highly superior manner, which was directly attributed to the high morale, esprit de corps and excellent training he imparted. Constantly exposing himself to enemy fire in order to insure the maximum efficiency of his unit, in addition to the high-spirited combat achievements of his command, Captain Keegan’s wise judgment and tactical knowledge served to enhance the success of the Battalion’s operations. By his leadership, courage and outstanding services Captain Keegan reflected great credit upon himself and the Army of the United States.
