The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Cecil F. Slusher (ASN: 35675513), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company B, 68th Armored Infantry Battalion, 14th Armored Division, in action against the enemy on 20 November 1944, near Turini, France. Though twice wounded during an enemy counter-attack against his battalion’s OP on Hill 1926, Sergeant Slusher continued to fire against the enemy and thus set an example of encouragement for his comrades in repelling the attack. By his conspicuous gallantry in the face of enemy fire, fearless determination and disregard for personal safety, Sergeant Slusher made possible the retention of the battalion OP against superior enemy numbers. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
