The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Albert E. Binotti (ASN: 0-1177284), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Battery A, 522d Field Artillery Battalion,442d Regimental Combat Team, in action against the enemy during the period 21 October 1944 to 24 October 1944, in France. By skillfully adjusting artillery fire, even though his own position was being shelled by enemy artillery and mortars, he gave strong and effective support to a special infantry task force that executed a wide envelopment to knock out a strongly fortified enemy defensive position. By his willingness to fight as an infantryman to reach suitable points of observation, First Lieutenant Binotti was an inspiration to the men under him. His superior judgement in the adjustment of artillery fire and his gallant courage and fighting spirit exemplify the finest traditions of the service.
