The singularly distinctive accomplishments of Colonel Irons and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.

Colonel Irons distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving with Headquarters, 3d Brigade, 82d Airborne Division, in action against the enemy in 1968 and 1969.
