The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant John L. Taylor (ASN: AO-1911690), United States Air Force, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial conflict against the armed enemy of the United Nations Forces on 18 January 1952. As a member of a section of eight F-84 type aircraft, on a routine dive bombing mission over hazardous mountain terrain to a pre-briefed target, Lieutenant Taylor was instrumental in discovering several heavily defended trains. Despite very intense and accurate enemy anti-aircraft fire, Lieutenant Taylor made a series of devastating attacks, obtaining direct hits on the supply-laden trains. Although his aircraft was severely damaged during the attack, this officer, through his exceptional flying ability, continued his attack until all bombs and ammunition were expended. As a result of this mission three locomotives and thirty-eight box cars were destroyed or damaged, seriously hampering the enemy’s war potential. By his high personal courage and extreme devotion to duty, Lieutenant Taylor has brought great credit upon himself, the United States Air Force, and the United Nations Command.
